Nationalists may fully block Russian banks’ operations in Ukraine
KIEV, Apr 6 (PRIME) -- Ukraine’s Azov group, which has obstructed operations of local offices of Russian banks since winter demanding their departure, intends to block them fully from April 10, when a short suspension of the blockade to allow Ukrainians to withdraw their money ends, it said on their VKontakte social net page on Thursday.
“Due to the lack of real and effective measures of the National Bank of Ukraine towards Russian banks operating in Ukraine and financed by an aggressor country, we, the Ukrainian nationalists, have decided to take the initiative and stop operations of the banks on the territory of our state,” the statement said.
“The moratorium will finish on April 10. After that we intend to physically stop their operations on the territory of our state.”
On March 23, Ukraine imposed sanctions against Russia’s Sberbank, VTB Ukraine, BM Bank, a unit of the Bank of Moscow, Prominvestbank, a unit of Vnesheconombank, and VS Bank of Sberbank for a year, prohibiting them from disinvesting from the country for the period.
